Antonelli´s to have a Birthday Bash on 13th November
(26/10/09)
Save the date - Friday 13th of November - which is Antonelli´s 20th Birthday! Don´t be put off by the number 13 either - in Italy it is considered good luck! It has certainly proved a lucky number for Antonelli´s as there are very few restaurants anywhere that are still going from strength to strength after 20 years.
The day will be celebrated with a complimentary Italian Champagne cocktail for every customer as well as live Mediterranean music from Chico Pere and the Calaita band.
The restaurant is going to be packed, so book your table now to avoid disappointment!

Finalists cook up a storm in Young Chef competititon in Waterloo
Apr 16 2009 by Lyndsay Young, Crosby Herald
YOUNG chefs cooked up dishes at Antonelli’s restaurant in Waterloo in a bid to win a competition. Students from schools in Crosby through to Bootle took part in Antonelli’s Young Chef of 2009.
Following a huge response, three finalists were selected including Catherine Ashe and Amy Tosini from Savio High School, Bootle, as well as Emma Gillespie from Sacred Heart, Crosby.
They were given the task of cooking an Italian meal at the South Road venue. Catherine won with her Crostasa di Pasta – crispy pasta cups filled with spinach and mozzarella, drizzled with a pesto and beetroot sauce.
Catherine said: “I’m delighted to have won and would like to thank everyone at Antonelli’s for their help.”
The students were also given guidance and tips from Antonelli’s professional chefs, including head chef Paul James, who chose the winner.
They were commended by the restaurant’s MD director Michael Gledhill, who said: “All of the students did exceptionally well and it was difficult for our head chef to pick the winner as there was so little to choose between them. Hopefully this experience will encourage them to go on to have successful careers in the restaurant business as they all have potential to be great chefs.”
The children won Finalists’ Certificates, family meals and a chef’s outfit.
Fresh Faces at Antonelli´s (06/03/09)
Welcome to Antonelli´s new website and to the Managing Directors Blog! Here I will regularly post news and press releases from Antonelli´s, as well as my more general thoughts on the restaurant business & dining out generally. If you have any thoughts that you want to express, please feel free to get in touch with me directly through the Contact Us form.
This year is set to be a very exciting time at Antonelli´s. We have a new management team of Head Chef Paul James and Restaurant Manager Anthony Farley, who was appointed just before Christmas. This is our youngest ever management team (both are in their twenties, although Anthony is fast approaching 30 now!), and you will notice generally that we have a young, enthusiastic team in place, both in the kitchen and on the restaurant floor. This is undoubtedly bringing a new atmosphere of energy and vigour to the business, which has in the past this has perhaps been lacking.
My own opinion is that in the last 10 years in particular there has been a huge drive from “celebrity chefs” such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey, James Martin, Heston Blumenthal etc to change the way that we think about food. You can hardly turn on the TV nowadays without seeing programmes from “Saturday Kitchen” to “Hell´s Kitchen”!This has had the knock-on effect of making a general improvement in the standard of the food that is served in many restaurants, as customers become more educated about cooking and therefore demand more from their dining out experiences.I think that this has particularly influenced the younger generation of chefs (or our own chefs at least) and we are certainly producing dishes now that are of a higher quality than in the past. This is why I have every confidence in our young team!
Anthony, Paul and myself in particular have been working closely together over the last few months, and hopefully you, our customers, are now starting to see the benefit of our attention to detail in the more contemporary Italian food that we are serving, in the great offers that we have though our VIP Club and Seasonal Menu and through our broader range of wines.
Out of all of the changes that we have made recently, undoubtedly the biggest innovation is the new A la Carte menu that we have just released. We have spent lots of time and effort developing the menu – you can take a look at it on the “Our Menu” section of this website – and we trust that you will enjoy getting to know the new dishes (and wines!) on it.
Another important development for 2009 has been our Seasonal Menu which, you guessed it, will change along with the seasons! There are two basic ideas behind this menu:
(1) To offer a selection of excellent quality, fresh & seasonal food with all produce on the menu being sourced locally. This is not a cheap menu made up of the cheapest food that we could find – it is all genuinely good produce prepared from fresh!
(2) To offer our clients the best value as possible in these difficult times so that they don’t have to cut back on luxuries like eating out. Therefore, our Seasonal Menu costs just £7.95 for two courses and you can also add ½ litre of wine for just £4.95. We hope that this helps you to enjoy some great food at excellent value for money!
The Seasonal Menu is available every day that we are open, i.e. Tuesday to Saturday, from 5pm – 7pm and on Sunday from 12:30 – 5pm.
For now that is it, I will be back posting more news and views soon!
Ciao,
Michael

Waterloo restaurant scours schools in search of new Jamie Oliver
Feb 12 2009 by Lyndsay Young, Crosby Herald
ANTONELLI’S restaurant staff in South Road are scouring schools in search of the new young Jamie Oliver. Owners of the Waterloo business are calling on pupils to enter a competition to create their own Italian dish. A winner of the competition will feature on the restaurant’s Seasonal Spring Menu.
They are following in the TV chef’s footsteps by teaching youngsters how to cook fresh food and encouraging them to take on a healthy diet.
Manager Anthony Farley said: “We really wanted to involve pupils from local schools in the launch of our new A la Carte Menu.
“We felt that getting youngsters interested in cooking fresh, seasonal food would be very positive – particularly if it contributes towards making their diets more healthy.”
Head chef Paul James, along with managing director Michael Gledhill and Anthony, came up with the idea when talking about the recent programme Jamie’s School Dinners.
Anthony said: “We decided that we would like to pass our passion for fresh, seasonal produce onto school pupils in our own area.
“We thought that it would be a good opportunity for a budding young chef from the area to have their own dish on our menu.”
Finalists will be invited to the restaurant for an afternoon to cook up a storm and see how a professional kitchen is run. Chefs will then cook the dishes devised by the youngsters and the winning dish will be decided by the head chef. This will be featured on Antonelli’s Seasonal Spring Menu and the winning pupil will be credited on the menu. The winner will also be invited to Antonelli’s to enjoy a meal with their family so they can sample their own creation.
The deadline for entries is Sunday, March 1, and finalists will be decided shortly after. Schools interested in putting pupils forward can call Anthony Farley on 949 0886.
